Welcome to the Estate Health Unit

Ministry of Health Sri Lanka

Introduction - Estate Health

The Estate Health Unit (EHU) of the Ministry of Health is committed to safeguarding and enhancing the health and well-being of estate sector communities across Sri Lanka.

Established with the aim of addressing the unique health challenges faced by estate populations—many of whom reside in geographically isolated, underserved, and socioeconomically disadvantaged areas—our unit plays a crucial role in ensuring equitable access to essential healthcare services.

The estate sector, home to a significant portion of the country’s plantation workforce and their families, has historically experienced disparities in health outcomes due to limited infrastructure, challenging terrain, and language and cultural barriers. Recognizing these realities, the Estate Health Unit has developed a targeted approach that integrates both preventive and curative services through a well-coordinated network of estate health facilities, mobile clinics, field health staff, and community outreach programs.

Empowering Health in Estate Communities

Our mission is to enhance the health and well-being of estate communities through targeted interventions and community engagement.
